One of the best things about camping is cooking over the fire. The fresh air and savory smoke elevate the most simple ingredients into a full experience. Unlike the quick meals we make at home, every aspect of a campfire meal is intentional; planning the menu, building the fire, preparing the ingredients, and cooking over the coals all require careful consideration.

Breakfast



Is breakfast the most important meal of the day? We’re not so sure, but there’s no denying that it’s important to fuel up for a day of adventure! Here are two recipes for delicious campfire breakfasts.

Camping Classic: Breakfast Skillet

Ingredients:



  • Breakfast sausage or bacon
  • Potatoes (diced or frozen hash browns)
  • Eggs
  • Onion and bell peppers (diced)
  • Shredded cheddar or Monterey Jack cheese
  • Salt, pepper, and garlic powder
  • Cooking oil or butter

Instructions:



  1. Heat a cast-iron skillet over the campfire and add oil or butter.
  2. Cook the sausage or bacon until browned, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Add potatoes, onions, and peppers to the skillet and cook until crispy and tender.
  4. Return the meat to the pan, then crack eggs over the mixture.
  5. Cover with foil and cook until eggs are cooked to your liking.
  6. Sprinkle with cheese and serve hot.


Optional: Serve with tortillas or fire-toasted bread



Glamping Gourmet: Dutch Oven French Toast

Ingredients:


  • Thick-cut bread (brioche or challah)
  • Eggs
  • Milk or heavy cream
  • Maple syrup or honey
  • Cinnamon and vanilla extract
  • Butter
  • Powdered sugar and fresh berries (optional)

Instructions:


  1. In a bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and a drizzle of maple syrup.
  2. Dip slices of bread into the mixture until soaked.
  3. Grease a Dutch oven with butter and layer the bread inside.
  4. Cover and place over hot coals, adding coals on top of the lid.
  5. Cook for 20–30 minutes until golden and cooked through.
  6. Dust with powdered sugar, top with berries, and serve with extra syrup for a luxurious outdoor breakfast.

Optional: Rip the bread into pieces and cook in the egg and milk mixture to make a bread pudding!

Lunch

It may be hard to take a break from all the fun for a midday meal, but these meals make it easier! They are everything a campfire meal should be: easy to cook, easy to eat, and absolutely delicious.

Camping Classic: Campfire Nachos

Ingredients:



  • Tortilla chips
  • Shredded cheese (cheddar, Monterey Jack, or a blend)
  • Black beans or refried beans
  • Salsa
  • Jalapeños
  • Precooked ground beef or chicken (optional)
  • Sour cream and/or guacamole for topping


Instructions:



  1. Layer tortilla chips in a foil pan or cast-iron skillet.
  2. Add beans, cooked meat, and cheese.
  3. Cover with foil and heat over the campfire until the cheese melts.
  4. Top with salsa, jalapeños, sour cream, and guacamole.
  5. Dig in straight from the skillet, no plates required!


Glamping Gourmet: Shrimp Scampi Skillet

Ingredients:


  • Large shrimp (peeled and deveined)
  • Garlic (minced)
  • Butter and olive oil
  • Lemon juice and zest
  • White wine (optional)
  • Fresh parsley
  • Salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes
  • Precooked pasta or crusty bread (optional)

Instructions:


  1. Heat a skillet over the fire with olive oil and butter.
  2. Add garlic and cook until fragrant.
  3. Add shrimp and season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
  4. Splash in white wine and lemon juice. Simmer until shrimp are vibrant pink.
  5. Sprinkle with parsley and lemon zest.
  6. Serve over pasta or with warm bread for extra elegance.\

Dinner


Spending time outdoors is a great way to build an appetite, so you’ll be starving by the time dinner rolls around. Here are a couple of campfire dinners you can look forward to after a long day of play!

Camping Classic: Campfire Pizza

Ingredients:



  • Pre-made pizza dough or flatbread
  • Pizza sauce
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Pepperoni and/or other favorite toppings
  • Olive oil


Instructions:



  1. Brush a cast-iron skillet with olive oil and press the dough into the pan.
  2. Add sauce, cheese, and toppings.
  3. Cover with foil or a lid and cook over medium heat until the crust is cooked and the cheese is melted.
  4. Slice and enjoy a fun, customizable campfire dinner.


Tip: For extra crispiness, add a few coals to the lid of the skillet!


Glamping Gourmet: Brie & Prosciutto Stuffed Chicken

Ingredients:


  • Boneless chicken breasts
  • Brie cheese
  • Prosciutto slices
  • Fresh herbs (thyme or rosemary)
  • Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions:



  1. Slice a pocket into each chicken breast.
  2. Stuff with brie, prosciutto, and herbs.
  3. Season with salt and pepper and secure with toothpicks.
  4. Sear the chicken in a skillet with olive oil over the fire until golden on both sides.
  5. Cover and cook until the chicken is fully done and the brie is melted.
  6. Serve with grilled vegetables or a salad for a restaurant-quality outdoor dinner.

What’s better than dinner outdoors? The answer is obviously desert! Making sweets treats over the fire adds a depth of flavour you can’t get at home. So make sure you enjoy your meal, but leave some room to try these delicious campfire delicacies.

Camping Classic: Banana Boats

  • Bananas (in the peel)
  • Chocolate chips
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Your favorite ice cream toppings! (Crushed graham crackers,  nuts, cherries, etc.)

Instructions:


  1. Slice a slit lengthwise in each banana (without cutting all the way through the peel).
  2. Stuff with chocolate chips and marshmallows.
  3. Wrap in foil and place near the fire or on hot coals.
  4. Heat until melted and gooey.
  5. Top with your favorite toppings and eat straight from the peel.

Glamping Gourmet: Grilled Peaches and Cream

  • Fresh peaches (halved and pitted)
  • Brown sugar or honey
  • Butter
  • Whipped cream, ice cream, or mascarpone
  • Cinnamon
  • Crushed cookies or granola

Instructions:


  1. Brush peach halves with butter and sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  2. Grill the cut-side down over the fire until caramelized and soft.
  3. Top with whipped cream, ice cream, or mascarpone and a sprinkle of crushed cookies or granola.
  4. Serve warm for a simple yet sophisticated campfire dessert.
