Fall Festivals
Every season has fairs and festivals, but fall’s festivals are the best. Maybe it’s because the cool autumn days make the weather perfect for a day outside. Maybe it’s the colorful trees that paint an enticing backdrop for the festivals. Or maybe the cheerful atmosphere that brings people together.
Whatever it is, no one can deny that autumn festivals are high on our list of favorites for fall. Here are a few local events you won’t want to miss.
Hartslog Day
Let’s start with a celebration close to our hearts (and our campground), Hartslog Day. Named after a local landmark that came to represent the area’s centuries-long history, Hartslog Day is a local heritage festival and harvest celebration rolled into one!
Celebrated in downtown Alexandria on the 2nd Saturday of October every year, Hartslog Day is a celebration of local history and community spirit.
Goose Day
Another local event with a silly name, Goose Day, is a unique Central Pennsylvania tradition dating back to the 1700s. Legend has it that eating goose on September 29 (aka Saint Michaelmas Day) brings good luck for the year ahead.
Today, restaurants and eateries across the Juniata River Valley join in by preparing their own takes on the dish, making it a delicious way to ring in fall.
Cassville Oktoberfest
Love good food and good brews? This small-town celebration captures the essence of Oktoberfest with hearty foods, local craft vendors, and festive music. Generally held the last week of September, Cassville’s Oktoberfest rings in the autumn season. It’s the perfect spot to embrace German traditions while enjoying the scenic Pennsylvania countryside.
Huntingdon Octoberfest
Looking for a bigger party? Continue the Oktoberfest celebrations in Huntingdon! Like its smaller Cassville counterpart, Huntingdon Octoberfest embraces the spirit of autumn with a Bavarian twist. The Huntingdon festival brings together local brewers, live music, and family-friendly activities into a lively setting.

Fall Family Fun
Spending quality time together is an important part of building strong family bonds. Finding activities that are fun, safe, and appropriate for all ages is a challenge. Toddlers, kids, teens, and adults all have different interests and physical abilities that can be hard to reconcile. Luckily, Huntingdon County offers opportunities for family fun all season long!
Here are a couple of memorable options.
Pumpkin Patch Express at East Broad Top Railroad
All aboard the historic East Broad Top Railroad for a ride straight into autumn magic! The Pumpkin Patch Express offers families the chance to take in the vibrant foliage by train, before stopping to pick pumpkins, play games, and eat delicious seasonal treats.
The kids will love the train ride and fall fun, and you’ll love the beautiful scenery and photo opportunities. It’s a win-win for everyone!
Tuckaway Tree Farm
Fall on the farm is a hands-on experience, and Tuckaway Tree Farm is the perfect place for it. Families can explore the scenic property on a hay ride, choose a pumpkin, and shop the farm store, all while enjoying the beauty of the season.
It’s a callback to simpler times, when family farms were the norm. And if you want to carry a piece of that peace with you into the holidays, you can also pick your Christmas Tree here!

Season Sports
You can’t talk about autumn in Pennsylvania without talking about sports– both the athletic kind and the hunting kind. For many people, fall means football games and turkey dinners. Central Pennsylvania offers plenty of opportunities to enjoy both!
Whether you’re a sportsman or a sports fan, here are some ways to enjoy the fall sports season.
Football at Juniata College
Whether you play the sport or cheer in the stands, football is an integral part of American culture. Keep the tradition alive by catching a game at Juniata College in Huntingdon. The lively atmosphere, tailgating, and crisp autumn air make for an unforgettable Saturday night tradition.

Hunting and Fishing
Central Pennsylvania’s rolling hills, forests, and rivers are a sportsman’s dream. Game, big and small, roam the land, and the rivers teem with trout ready to bite. The land is so ideal for sport that our campground offers hunting and fishing packages.
Whether you're an angler planning a relaxing weekend or a hunter bagging your Thanksgiving turkey, Pennsylvania’s bountiful wildlands have plenty to offer.
Autumn Camping
To truly get that fall feeling, you need to immerse yourself in the landscape. The best way to do that is camping!
The cooler daytime temperatures are perfect for longer hikes to spot migrating wildlife or take striking photos. And the chilly evening air makes the warmth of the campfire especially attractive for sipping hot cider under the stars. Can you imagine a more beautiful night?
